In the tradition of John D. MacDonald, Elmore Leonard, James Grippando, and Carl Hiassen, Gary Showalter writes novels that have been called 'impossible to put down'.

If you are not yet familiar with Gary Showalter's work, he has been described as a master of descriptive writing, with excellent character development, tremendous scene description and short, punchy action scenes. Gary Showalter writes with a wry, sardonic sense of humor, and his work treats romance as it should be; lightly, gently, and with a quirky understanding of the tender side of human nature.

"Twisted Key", Mr. Showalter's third novel, is now available. Here is a shot of the cover art:

"After reading all three of Mr. Showalter's books, I really feel like the character Terry Rankin is a friend and close neighbor that I know very well. "Twisted Key" is his very best work, and I recommend it highly. Action and suspense packed, a book for both men and women to enjoy."

Sheila B, San Jose, Cal.

"Well, I finally found a copy of "Twisted Key". Drove to Ocala, (From Lake Mary) where Novel Idea II had copies. Having lived in Southside Jacksonville for a while, having toured all the roads you wrote about brought back many good memories. Tremendous, story keep them coming."

"Mr. Showalter’s descriptions of the surroundings are quintessential Florida. I really enjoyed the book.” Israel Hearst, scenic photographer, Orange Park, Florida.

"I've read plenty of books by Fleming, Chandler, Hammett et al but never got into the guts and mind of their main characters as much I did here... The wealth of minor detail was engaging. I eagerly await the next installment in the life of Terry Rankin." Stuart Zusman, Israel

We think the Kindle is far and away the best of the eBook reading devices. Some folks disagree, but that's the nature of technology. We can live with that. "The Big Bend"  and "Hog Valley" are both available for the Kindle platform, and when "Twisted Key" comes out, we will have it formatted for Kindle, as well. We simply like the Kindle, so there. This is a blatant plug for a product, but that's okay. It's one we feel strongly about.

Just to show that we're not playing any favorites on this site, here's a great selection of other authors' books you can enjoy....

On the author's writing style

Mr. Showalter's novels reflect his wide-ranging life. Many of the characters you will meet in his novels are composites of people he has known and worked with - and in some cases, against.

His ability to infuse his scenes with vivid color and description are based on his having been there and occasionally done that, often more than once.

Mr. Showalter's sense of humor comes through in his novels. Wry, self-deprecating and occasionally, downright hilarious.
